Who should I call with a query?

If you have any queries regarding the eligibility of an applicant, the application process or types of special days, please email medical@willowfoundation.org.uk or call the Willow Foundation on 01707 259777 and ask to speak to a member of the special days team.

Who can I speak to regarding the changes to the eligibility criteria (effective 1 October 2011)?

Who meets the cost of the special day?

Regardless of the applicant's financial circumstances the Willow Foundation will meet the costs of arrangements for the special day for the applicant, their responsible companion and their children (if included). There is a budget for every special day, so arrangements will be discussed with the applicant to ensure that the Foundation provides a special day that best fits with their wishes while meeting these budget constraints. Any additional costs that may be incurred will be the applicant's responsibility but will be discussed and agreed with them beforehand. Details of all financial arrangements will be clarified in a final letter to the individual.

The applicant needs medical assistance/equipment on their special day - who should they inform?

Any special needs will be discussed with the applicant and you, their medical professional. Any medical personnel (including yourself if required), specialised transport and/or equipment necessary on the special day will be organised with your consent. Details of all medical arrangements will be confirmed in the applicant's final letter.

What if the Foundation can't fulfil the special day request?

Every effort will be made to fulfil the special day request. However, if not possible, the individual will be informed and asked to choose a second choice of day.

What if the special day needs to be cancelled?

The Foundation is aware that conditions of serious illness may be unpredictable and cancellation of some special days is inevitable. Where an applicant's health status prevents them from taking a special day as planned, a special day may be postponed. The charity will consider individual circumstances and treat each application for rearrangement on a case by case basis.

How quickly can the Foundation organise the special day?

In most cases the Willow Foundation requires a minimum period of eight weeks' notice to organise a special day. The Foundation is aware that sometimes special day applications need to be treated with urgency. As the applicant's medical professional, we ask that you indicate the urgency of the application on the form, and if need be call to ensure that we are aware. We will endeavour to organise the day to fit around the individual's schedule of treatment and to cater to the nature of their medical condition. The charity will discuss all arrangements with you as the referring medical professional.

Depending on the applicant's age and medical condition, there may be other charities and organisations that can offer help or support. Click here for links to some other organisations.
