Tayside Children with Cancer and Leukaemia
In 1994, from a small room at Ninewells Hospital, Dundee, Tayside Children with Cancer and Leukaemia (TCCL) was born. We had a vision - to make family lives easier for those with a child suffering with cancer or leukaemia. We're by no means a huge charity, last year we brought in around £35,000 in funds, which isn't bad considering TCCL is run entirely by volunteers. Our 8 strong committee meets once a month at the Maggies Centre in Dundee to decide how funds should be dispersed and work on various fundraising activities.
TCCL, now based at Ward 29 (the children's ward) at Ninewells Hospital aims to do whatever it takes to make the lives of families that little bit easier. Our funds are used for lots of different things: from providing financial help to families travelling to and from treatment, to providing clothing grants for children, to contributing towards holidays and weekends away, to create family memories. We've even provided a washing machine for a family in need and driving lessons for a mum who desperately needed to get on the road.
Not only do we help financially, TCCL organises lots of events through the year where children and their parents can come together, enjoy a day out and socialise with each other. We've done lots of things from visiting a safari park, to going to the Royal Highland Show, taking our teenagers out for pizza and we even invite the teddy bears to join in at our annual picnic.
We rely strongly, not only on support from businesses in the form of donations and raffle prizes, but also from YOU - the individual. We're proof that from little acorns, big trees can grow...
... every donation, no matter what size, receives a personal thank you from the committee. And ever penny of that donation goes straight to helping the children and young people. Now that's dedication to the cause.
TCCL though based in Dundee, is open to anyone aged 0-21 who is on treatment at Ninewells Hospital - meaning we cover the Angus, Dundee, Fife and Perth regions in Scotland. We treat any funding applications with the strictest of confidence and try to respond to enquiries as quickly as possible.
