Looking to the future

Jordan was diagnosed with Leukaemia when he was 21. Having started as an ache in his shoulder, he received the shock diagnosis following fourteen months of tests and visits to specialists. Jordan's Special Day gave him a spring to his step and has helped him feel positive about the future. He is now approaching the end of his three-year treatment and says that his Special Day has helped mark the start of a new positive time in his life.

“I was visiting my grandparents when mum called and asked me to come home straight away. After she explained what the Dr had said, I was in shock; I thought cancer only happened to older people… I guess I didn’t really know what to think.”

During the initial months of intensive chemotherapy treatment, Jordan was able to focus on something more positive after hearing that Willow was arranging his Special Day. The excitement of looking forward to the trip was a distraction from all he had been through. Willow organised for Jordan and his friend, Matthew, to travel to Manchester, see his favourite team, Manchester United in action and stay overnight in a hotel.

" I was in shock; I thought cancer only happened to older people… "

“I absolutely loved my Special Day; it was everything I imagined and more. It was an amazing experience and I have got memories that will stick with me for life. The best part of it for me was walking out into the stadium hearing the fans singing, and seeing the players so close up, it gave me shivers and I’ve never had a feeling like that!”

“I will always look back to that day and know that the special feeling will stay with me forever. It’s helped me feel happy again and given me a new positive outlook for the future; I want to experience and try new things. Even though having cancer is a horrible experience, there’s always a light at the end of the tunnel and with the help of charities like Willow, you can still do the things you love and enjoy.”
