Role overview

We are seeking a dynamic and passionate Individual Giving Fundraiser to join our team.

The Individual Giving Fundraiser will be responsible for cultivating and stewarding relationships with individual donors, with a focus on acquiring and retaining regular givers as well as coordinating appeals, raffles, legacy and in-memory programmes.  

The individual Giving Fundraiser will lead on our new gift solicitation programme which involves taking potential donors on a 9-month journey, offering three different giving opportunities that scale down over time.

The role is responsible for implementing fundraising strategies and maximising income and support for Willow.

The Individual Giving role sits within the Supporter Fundraising Team. The team works closely to support each other with the delivery of activity and events, to meet overall income targets and present a seamless experience of Willow to supporters.

Purpose of the role

The Individual Giving Fundraiser plays a crucial role in generating income from individuals.

The primary objective is to cultivate relationships with individual donors, implementing effective fundraising strategies to ensure a stable and growing donor base.

By driving revenue generation through appeals, raffles, legacy, and in memory giving programmes, the Individual Giving Fundraiser directly contributes to our ability to fulfil our mission to support seriously ill young adults.

The individual Giving Fundraiser will lead on the development of the individual giving fundraising programme, with continuous reviews, prioritising the most effective activities to deliver income targets, on time and within budget.

Drive long-term sustainable growth of the Individual Giving programme through effective donor recruitment, conversion, stewardship and development through cross-product promotion and upgrade.

Key responsibilities

Budget Management and Programme Development:

  1. With the Head of Supporter Fundraising, set the annual budget and programme of activity and actively monitor performance against it.
  2. Develop and execute strategies to solicit and secure donations from individual donors through various channels, including direct mail and online campaigns.
  3. Cultivate and steward relationships with individual donors to maintain their engagement and support over time.
  4. Collaborate with the marketing and communications team to create compelling fundraising materials and appeals targeted at individual donors.
  5. Utilise the charity database RE NXT to track donor interactions, manage gift processing and generate reports for analysis and decision making.
  6. Provide excellent donor stewardship through timely acknowledgement of gifts, personalised communication and recognition efforts.
  7. Plan, monitor and control expenditure as appropriate and manage income against targets, KPIs; providing regular revised projections as required, and narrative for the Senior Leadership Team and Trustees.
  8. Primary focus on the regular giving programme, responsible for developing and executing strategies to acquire, retain, and upgrade individual donors.
  9.  In memory programme is a key area of development, this role will play a crucial role in promoting and managing the in-memory products, supporting donors to remember their loved ones whilst supporting Willow.
  10. Develop a legacy and stewardship programme.
  11. Work with the Finance team, Data & Insight Officer and Supporter Care Assistant to ensure accurate data recording.
  1. Review and develop Willow’s existing programme of Individual giving activity (appeals, raffle, lottery, regular giving, in memory giving, merchandise, Christmas cards and legacy giving)
  2. Identify areas of prospective growth within Individual Giving and prioritise the areas with maximum income potential.


  1. Maximise the use of the database e.g.  defining data segmentation for activities; report building; and ensuring information is recorded accurately.
  2. Build excellent working relationships with colleagues across the organisation, creating processes that support efficiencies and collaborative working.
  3. Work with office volunteers.
  4. keep up to date on developments and trends in fundraising and the charitable sector.
  5. keep up to date and comply with fundraising, GDPR and other relevant legislation and codes of practice and good standards.
  6. To undertake any other tasks as required.
