Position: Prospect Researcher

Reporting to: Head of Charitable Giving

Salary: Up to £30,000 per annum FTE, dependent on experience

Hours: Part-time, 22.5 hours/ 3 days per week, open to discussing working those hours flexibly

It is an exciting time at Willow as we are adding a Prospect Researcher role to our fundraising team to help achieve our growth ambition to reach and support more seriously ill 16 to 40 year olds.

To be considered for this newly created position, you will have proven prospect research skills and meticulous attention to detail. The role will work across the fundraising team – mainly corporate, events and major donor teams, to identify and qualify new corporate and individual prospects that are aligned with Willow’s values and cause.

You will be a confident communicator and feel at ease speaking with or writing to potential and existing stakeholders, colleagues, prospects and supporters. You are a motivated self-starter with the ability to work independently. You will be inquisitive, determined, and adept at spotting new opportunities that could fit Willow’s work, values or fundraising activities.

With strong organisational skills, you will have strong desk-based research skills. You will gather information from a variety of sources, to provide concise and relevant briefings and profiles for colleagues. You will have some knowledge of GDPR and Data Protection as there will be times when you will be working with sensitive information and you’ll carry out your responsibilities with transparency, confidentiality and with the highest standards of ethical judgement.

Job responsibilities

• To lead the prospecting effort across the Corporate, Events and Major Donor teams, including identification and evaluation of both prospective and existing prospects.

• To produce summary and detailed research profiles, compiling comprehensive background information in accordance with the Data Protection Act.

• To curate lists of individuals and organisations to identify the most suitable potential contacts for approach, making initial contact or passing leads to colleagues when appropriate

• To map Willow’s networks and support the fundraisers in monitoring pipelines

• To produce profiles and background notes on attendees at Willow’s major events

• Working with fundraising colleagues to provide insights in new areas of prospecting, identify corporate sectors to explore and to continually replenish the prospect pipeline with qualifying prospects in order to meet current and future income targets.

• Prospecting for the Special Days team, which includes identifying Gift in Kind opportunities and corporate partnerships

• To work collaboratively with other teams and stakeholders at Willow, to ensure we are maximizing cross-working opportunities.

• To work with a set of agreed KPIs, including number of qualifying number of prospects delivered, tracking conversation rates and others to measure progress and success

General duties

· Utilising the prospect management system on Raiser’s Edge to track, record and manage activity

· To support the development of Willow’s approach to GDPR, Data Protection and the Code of Fundraising Practice in the areas of prospecting and research

· To undertake any other general administrative tasks as reasonably required

· To keep up to date and comply with fundraising, data protection and other relevant legislation and codes of practice and good standards

Person Specification

Knowledge and Experience

• Demonstrable experience within a prospect research role

• Experience of analysing researched data and presenting information in a concise format

• Experience in using Raiser’s Edge or similar CRM

• Strong awareness of corporate charity partnerships, key philanthropic individuals, families, trusts and foundations based in the UK

• Understanding and knowledge of the UK funding environment and good practice

• An understanding of GDPR and its application in relation to the role

Skills and Abilities

• Strong analytical and research skills, with the ability to source and obtain information from a variety of sources

• Ability to collect and assess information quickly, identifying key points and drawing conclusions

• Ability to use own initiative, solve problems and think laterally

• Good communication skills, written and verbal

• Confident manner in approaching cold relationships

• High attention to detail

• Ability to prioritise and work on own initiative against multiple and competing deadlines
