Clare’s Special Day story

When Clare was diagnosed with breast cancer, it was a huge shock for the whole family. Due to hospital appointments and treatment, she found herself constantly having to say no to going out with the children. But the support she received from her friends and family gave Clare the strength to carry on fighting. A trip to London to see The Lion King musical was the perfect way for Clare and her loved ones to forget about the past few months and the chance to create some wonderful memories together as a family.

We were a very happy but very busy family before my diagnosis. My diagnosis was a horrible shock and I tried to cope with it all by just carrying on as normal. This was obviously impossible and made the impact of my treatment a lot harder for me as I was very frustrated by the things I couldn’t do. I carried on working and I was incredibly tired and this combined with the hormone treatment made me quite grumpy. I found it hard to do things with the children due to my tiredness; we couldn’t even go on the special birthday shopping trip that was planned for my eldest.

My family and friends have been amazingly supportive. My children have not complained once and have coped brilliantly with their tired and moody Mummy. Their normality with me was just what I needed and I am so proud of them and my wonderful husband.

We are incredibly grateful for such a wonderful experience for us to share as a family. Great memories were made and we all felt incredibly spoilt.

Having my Special Day gave us the opportunity to have some quality time together and it was a well deserved treat for the children after everything we’ve all been through.

We initially kept the Special Day a surprise from the children until a few days before and it was a lovely secret to share with my husband knowing how excited they would be.

We would like to say a huge thank you to everyone at Willow for the most wonderful, special family weekend. We felt like celebrities having a central London hotel reservation and cars booked for our transport around London. The Lion King musical was amazing and we enjoyed a visit to the National Portrait Gallery too. The whole weekend was so relaxed for us.
