We always enjoy hearing about the different ways people raise funds for Special Days, but the ‘Hauling for Cancer’ Angling Group are definitely a first for Willow.
Terry Howlings and his angling group ‘Hauling for Cancer’ chose to make their annual fishing match at Walthamstow Reservoirs into a fundraising event this year, all in aid of Special Days and we were delighted to hear their plans for our first fishy fundraiser.
Terry explains, “Having read a number of Special Day stories we knew it was Willow we wanted to fundraise for. We wanted to help young adults and their families by creating as many special experiences as possible.”
In the build-up to the event last month, the group worked incredibly hard to collect raffle prizes and attend various other small angling events to spread the word and gather sponsors.
For the event itself, the sun shone throughout the weekend and everyone enjoyed a fun-filled time of laughter, fishing and fundraising. We were absolutely thrilled to hear that this first ‘Hauling for Cancer’ event raised over £10,000.
Terry continued, “To find out afterwards that we had raised enough money to create over eight Special Days makes us extremely proud of the hard work we put in. We did not dream of raising this much for our first Willow event, but we’re already planning a second later this year to raise even more.”
