We value our volunteers so much at Willow and we try and celebrate them every day. It’s National Volunteers’ Week so we have an excuse to say an extra thank you and share their stories with you, too.
We’ve already heard from Jackie, but today we wanted to share another voice from Team Willow. Two, in fact. Jenny joined the team at Willow HQ earlier this year whereas Derek has volunteered (both in and out the office) for years!
Derek:
“I’ve been volunteering for Willow for a few years now and it is really good fun, not like working at all! Willow is such a great organisation and the staff are so friendly and welcoming when I turn up in the office each Friday, helping out is fantastically satisfying.
It’s very difficult to imagine what the people with serious illness have been and are going through, but I know that a Special Day means an enormous amount to them and creates marvellous memories to carry into the future. To be able to play a small part in creating those memories is something that means a great deal to me.”
Jenny:
“I’ve been volunteering at Willow for a few months now and have to say I really look forward to my Mondays in the office!
The care and dedication from everybody to make the charity as good as it can be is inspiring and, even though I am only clicking away at the computer for a few hours a week, I am thoroughly enjoying learning about how the charity operates and playing my small part in it.
I LOVE the wonderful work that Willow do. It’s people, just taking extra care of other people, as it should be. A Special Day out – from the anticipation leading up to it, the fun on the day itself, to the memories afterwards – is such a tonic, and can mean so much more to someone battling with illness.
Long may the good work of Willow continue!”
