The Willow 10K made its return on Sunday 13 October 2024 as Hatfield House welcomed runners, supporters, and volunteers from across Hertfordshire and the surrounding areas. The dry weather and high spirits set the stage for a memorable day, with people of all ages taking on the challenge.
New Horizon CrossFit led a warm-up and the event officially kicked off when Willow’s Life President, Bob Wilson, and Honorary President, former England goalkeeper David Seaman, blew the horn to start the 10K, 5K, and Family Fun Runs. Their presence infused the day with energy and Annie Brewster, the High Sheriff of Hertfordshire, was also on hand to support and cheer on the runners.
This year, participants took on a brand new 10K route, offering a different view of the scenic grounds.
Many chose to embrace the spirit of the day by dressing up in colourful costumes and creative outfits, while others were running in memory of a loved one. One runner shared, “We ran in memory of my sister Emily, who had a special day with Willow 21 years ago. United by her memory, we wanted to raise money for Willow as a heartfelt thank you for the lasting impact they’ve had on our lives.”
As they crossed the finish line, volunteers were there to greet runners with doughnuts, providing a well-deserved reward for everyone who completed the course.
We owe a huge thanks to our sponsors who played a vital role in making the Willow 10K 2024 possible: Simmons Bakers, Wrights Estate Agents, Herts SDS, New Horizon CrossFit, Recovery Inc., Davis for Building, John Lewis Welwyn Garden City, and of course, our wonderful hosts at Hatfield House. Their support ensured that the day ran smoothly and was an enjoyable experience for all.
Most importantly, every step taken supported Willow’s mission to provide special days for seriously ill young adults, creating joy and lasting memories for families facing tough times.
A massive thank you to all the runners, volunteers, and supporters who made the 2024 Willow 10K such a big success. We can’t wait to see you all again next year!
