A record breaking London Marathon

May 1, 2024

A huge congratulations and thank you to everyone who ran the 2024 London Marathon in support of Willow.

Anna, Cameron, Danielle, Harvey, Joe, Lorna, Mark, Matt, Nick and Jackie (along with team London bus) laced up their running shoes to take on the 26.2 mile challenge and raised over £30,000! Their efforts will help even more seriously ill young adults make memories with their loved ones.

Having previously made headlines by running the 2017 London Marathon in her wedding dress just hours after saying “I do”, Willow beneficiary Jackie made history once more at this year’s race.

Back in 2014, aged just 32, Jackie was diagnosed with breast cancer. It was then that Jackie first came across Willow who arranged a special day out on the Orient Express for her and her now husband, Duncan.

This year, to mark 10 years of being cancer free, Jackie, along with nine other runners, took on the challenge of becoming the fastest team of 10 people to complete a marathon in costume. Incredibly, they managed to achieve a new Guinness World Record and even completed the course 23 minutes faster than the previous record holders, all while running dressed as a bus!

The red bus costume was made from hula hoops, plastic plumbing pipes and yoga mats, and was designed and created by Willow Honorary President, Frankie Seaman.

Speaking on her latest achievement, Jackie said, “Running the London Marathon alongside nine amazing superheroes (and two brilliant support crew) proves that you can go a long way with the right people by your side. The kindness and support has been overwhelming. I am so grateful. Thank you to everyone for the outpouring of love and support.”

As part of her year of challenges, Jackie is also planning to take on 24 peaks in 48 hours in the Lake District and a 100K trek across the Sahara. Good luck Jackie!
