Spirits were high in the club house at the East Herts Golf Club on the morning of Friday 26th September. With the Ryder Cup on tv, some of football’s greatest legends were geared up for the seventh annual Arsenal vs Spurs Golf Day, in aid of Willow.
Bob Wilson, was captain of the Arsenal team consisting of David Seaman, Alan Smith, Frank McLintock, John Hollins, Lee Dixon, George Graham, Graham Rix, Andy Linighan and Liam Brady.
Spurs were captained by Martin Chivers, and included Steve Sedgley, Paul Moran, Ray Clemence, Cliff Jones, Ossie Ardiles, Eddie Clayton, Dean Austin, David Howells, Paul Miller and Clive Allen.
East Herts Golf Club has jointly organised the event with Willow, where golfers compete alongside their footballing heroes, since 2008. The Arsenal team won the trophy back, in what was an enjoyable day of golf and fundraising. The East Herts Golf Club generously offers its facilities at no charge, meaning all of the £14,000 raised on the day came straight to Willow.
Bob said “We’ve had a fantastic day. I’m delighted that the Arsenal team have won the trophy back this year. On behalf of Willow, I am very grateful to all those that have taken part today, and especially to the East Herts Golf Club for generously waiving the green fees, meaning that all the money raised will go to Willow to support many more seriously ill young adults, helping make a positive difference to their lives at a time when they need it most.”
To date, the Arsenal vs Spurs golf days have raised around £70,000 for Willow. Special thanks to Paul Vater at The Art of Sport for the players gifts.
