Ten years ago Roger Riggs made a promise to Bob that he would help raise funds for Willow in memory of Bob’s daughter Anna.
Now more than a decade on and Riggs has more than fulfilled his pledge and with the help of friends John Skinner and business partner Dave Timmins, has raised more than £750,000 for the charity.
The charity golf day, last month at Filton Golf Club in Bristol, saw more than 80 golfers take to the course and help to raise £30,000 on the day.
Bob and Megs were on hand to receive the funds at the dinner following the day’s golf.
Bob said: “It’s been ten years since Roger first bumped into me in Portugal having just read my book about our daughter Anna, who had died of a rare form of cancer. He promised me he’d raise £50,000 for the charity – well he’s done considerably more than that over the intervening ten years and he and the people who have helped to support our charity in the South West are some of the biggest fund-raisers in the country.
“We are always amazed at just how much Roger and his friends have helped. Their fund-raising has helped hundreds of young adults aged between 16 and 40 with life-limiting illnesses to forget their problems, if only for a short time, and enjoy quality time with their family.”
Roger, from Almondsbury, South Gloucestershire, said: “We began our fund-raising at Filton Golf Club and we’ve ended at Filton. The intervening years we’ve had some incredible support from people all over the region.
“I couldn’t have done it without the tremendous support, especially from John and Dave, and those who have donated to the charity.”
