Hertfordshire 100 Success

May 10, 2016

Former-Arsenal goalkeepers, and good friends, Bob Wilson and David Seaman joined nearly 600 cyclists on Sunday 8 May for this year’s Hertfordshire 100 event, raising funds for Willow.

The Herts 100, sponsored by Wrights estate agents and organised by Bike Events, is a mighty 100 mile, 60 mile or 25 mile ride through the county’s beautiful landscape.

The sun was shining bright and early, encouraging an additional 150 riders to sign up on the morning. There was a fun atmosphere with the cyclists being treated to a ‘Tour de France’ style send off and welcome back, by the Wrights team of volunteers.

Tina Mantorini, who was part of the Wrights volunteering team, said: “When I arrived home in the afternoon, I sat down and felt like I’d achieved something. Giving my time to such an amazing charity felt so good!”.

Annie came all the way from Cambridgeshire to ride with her mum, she said: “Thank you for a wonderful experience. Me and my mum thoroughly enjoyed it and feel really inspired from hearing about Willow! We will definitely be doing it again.”

David Seaman, Willow Ambassador and close friend of Bob and Megs Wilson, said: “This is the second year that I’ve taken part in this fantastic event.  The work that Willow does is so worthwhile and I’m pleased that I’ve been able to support them again.”

Bob said, “Another fantastic event, so well supported by the Hertfordshire community, and beyond. Again, there was a real sense of team spirit among the participants along the route, I have to say particular thanks to David for taking part. Thanks to everyone who sponsored David and I, and for everyone else who has raised funds for Willow. Every penny raised will help us provide many more Special Days, creating memories that can be cherished by young adults with life-threatening illnesses and their loved ones.”

Funds raised by participants is still coming in but so far they have raised more than £15,000 for the charity. Well done to everyone who took part on the day, including Team LB (Liberty Bishop), Longmores Solicitors, Red Letter Days, Brookfield Multiplex Construction Ltd, Jitka Bartova (who has raised more than £3,500), Melvin Wright of Wrights, who has raised £1,750.
