Grace’s Special Treat box
Twenty-seven-year-old, Grace, from Basildon, received treatment for ovarian cancer, and Willow arranged for her to receive a Special Treat box.

Grace’s story
“Before I started treatment for my cancer I worked part time at a cinema and was completing a BSc in Physics but I have now been signed off work and have paused my university studies until 2027.
“Since my diagnosis, my family have been impacted a lot too. As I have been poorly quite frequently my mum decided to get signed off work and spent every moment with me in the hospital, whether it was for an appointment, an admission or in A&E. My sister has been really helpful and has been cooking for me and has driven me to most of my appointments. When she wasn’t at work or university, she spent her free time with me in the hospital.
“I do feel bad as they haven’t been doing as much for themselves as they have to plan things around me, especially during the first weeks of my chemotherapy as I got so many side effects. Unfortunately, after my operation, I had a lot of complications and have now been admitted to hospital three times. Alongside this I have been back and forth for oncology appointments, tests, scans and blood tests, and have found that I can’t really book or plans things too far in advance just in case.
“The diagnosis has taken away a lot of my independence and the ability to do things such as travel. Even though a lot away has been taken away from me, I’m lucky that my family and friends have been so supportive and help me whenever they can.”

“I was so excited to open my Special Treat box with my mum who is also going through her own cancer journey. She thought that it was so lovely of Willow and that she can imagine it would positively impact a lot of young adults.
“I chose a mini escape room game for the two of us to do when I can’t go out, so I was really excited to show her that. I loved everything from the box itself, to the items that I received. I think the pocket hug is a lovely addition and I will keep it with me.
