Jensen’s dream concert

Jensen from Malvern in Worcestershire has received treatment for Hodgkin lymphoma. Willow organised a once in a lifetime opportunity for him to meet his idol, Loyle Carner, which was an exciting and uplifting experience he shared with his friends. Julie, Jensen’s mum, shares his story.

“Meeting his idol, Loyle Carner, on his Special Day was an absolute dream.”

Jensen’s story

“Life was put on hold when he was diagnosed with Hodgkin lymphoma at the age of 16. It affected his education as he fell behind in college. He was unable to play basketball, which was a huge part of his life, so music became a very big thing during his treatment and recovery.

“Jensen spent many months in and out of the hospital. The first round of chemotherapy didn’t work, so 10 months after first being diagnosed and three intense rounds of chemo, he had to have a stem cell replacement. After the stem cell treatment, he had no energy and took a long time to recover, but now, 18 months on, he’s a lot stronger, has a lot more energy and is able to do more.”

“He had an amazing experience meeting Loyle.”

“Meeting his idol, Loyle Carner, on his Special Day was an absolute dream. It was an absolute pleasure, really uplifting and inspiring. It was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. He had an amazing experience meeting Loyle.

“He spent time with him pre-concert, chatted and talked for a good amount of time. The team made Jensen feel very special, and Loyle even came off stage mid-gig and gave him a hug in a very meaningful song and also, a personal shout-out. Jensen is still buzzing about it.”
