Maureen’s volunteering story
Maureen has been volunteering with Willow since our Biggleswade shop opened in 2023. Here, Maureen tells us about her favourite parts of volunteering and what advice she would give to others interesting in getting involved.
“If I was giving advice to someone who was thinking of volunteering, I’d tell them to come and give it a go. You’ve got nothing to lose and it will really boost your confidence.”
“I hadn’t heard of Willow until I saw their shop in my local town. I had volunteered with other charities for many years so I applied to join the team in Biggleswade, just after the store opened in 2023.
At 87, I’m a widow and am too old to work but I still enjoy interacting with people and helping out where I can. Volunteering is a great way for me to do those things. I help out at the Biggleswade shop twice a week, where I mostly hang and tag clothing donations, ready for customers when they come in.
My favourite thing about volunteering is meeting new people. I love engaging with the customers. If I was giving advice to someone who was thinking of volunteering, I’d tell them to come and give it a go. You’ve got nothing to lose and it will really boost your confidence.”
