Jo’s volunteering story
Jo, a volunteer at our shop in Hatfield, found it difficult when she had give up work due to illness. After volunteering was suggested as a way to get out of the house, Jo has seen her mental health improve.

“I was advised that volunteering would help me get out of the house and meet people. Since starting at Willow I’ve made friends.”
“If people come and ask about volunteering in the shop, I always recommend it. You have flexibility and can do as many hours as suit you while getting to meet new people.
“When I moved here I had family but no friends nearby. I used to work six days a week, but because I’m epileptic I had to give that up. I was in the same job for 18 years so it was a big shock to not have that routine anymore.
“I was advised that volunteering would help me get out of the house and meet people. Since starting at Willow I’ve made friends. I get on with the other volunteers so well. We go out for lunch, and we went out for dinner one night. We have such a laugh because we have similar personalities. It doesn’t matter who’s in, we all get along so well.”
