Kinsey’s volunteering story

Kinsey was looking for an opportunity to get back into volunteering after enjoying it when she was younger. Here’s what Kinsey had to say about her experience of helping out at our Hertford shop:

“I’ve always wanted to get back into volunteering but it can be a bit challenging as you get older.”

“I was very big into volunteering when I was younger, helping out at things like the Special Olympics and Amnesty International. I’m from the US and charity shops don’t exist there so there aren’t the same opportunities to get involved.

“With this role, I thought “That looks like something I know how to do” and it seemed like a good way to get out of the house. I work from home and so does my husband. We live in a one bedroom flat so it’s nice to be somewhere else for a few hours.

“I’ve been volunteering on Wednesdays and Thursdays since March and am usually at the till which I really enjoy. I like the social aspect when the locals come in on a consistent basis and I get to know them. You get to meet a lot of characters that float in and out. I like all of the people who work here and I enjoy getting to see them too.

“Occasionally I’ll be upstairs doing the sorting and processing which is also fun because you get to see all the things people bring in. As someone who likes thrifting it’s great to have first dibs on all of the donations.”

We’re always looking for volunteers to help with a variety of roles. Visit our webpage to find out more about the opportunities currently available.
