Precious’ volunteering story

Precious is still at school but as she lives locally, manages to fit in volunteering at Willow’s Hatfield shop once a week after school.  Here, Precious tells us how she came to be involved, and her favourite things about volunteering.

“It’s not just about work – we get to talk and it’s just a nice and relaxed environment. ”

“I used to shop at the Willow Hatfield shop, so when my school asked us to do community service I decided to volunteer here. I sent an email to Jo at Willow, who helped me arrange the placement. I started volunteering in September 2024 and I’ve loved it ever since. I remember loving the way the staff and volunteers were when I came to shop. They have always been so friendly and welcoming.

“I do the tagging and usually work in the back room, sorting donations, identifying what needs to be sent for ragging and hanging up the clothes. I prefer to stay in the back room than be on the tills.

“The manager is really supportive and always makes sure the team are ok. I am often exhausted after school, so it is good that there are usually snacks and I can have something to eat. I also like that it’s not just about work – we get to talk and it’s just a nice and relaxed environment.

“I would say to anyone who wants to get involved in volunteering to give it a go”.
